Travelling by train

In many cases, you may bring your pet with you on the train. However, different train companies have their

own specific rules and conditions. Below, you can find detailed information about pet travel policies on major

international train services such as Thalys, TGV, Eurostar, and ICE International.

Thalys

When travelling on Thalys, small dogs or other pets may travel free of charge if they are carried in a basket or

bag not exceeding 55x30x30 cm. The container must be secure and ensure that the animal does not disturb

other passengers.

If you are travelling with a guide dog, it may accompany you for free and does not need to wear a muzzle.

For larger dogs, they are permitted in the carriage as long as they are on a leash, wearing a muzzle, and do

not disturb other passengers. However, if another passenger complains, the train manager may ask the pet

owner to move to another part of the train.

Tickets for larger dogs can be purchased on board from the Train Manager for €30.

Note: On Sun and Ski Thalys services, pets are not permitted, except for guide dogs. Make sure to carry

documentation that proves your dog’s guide status, as this may be requested by staff.

Thalys Contact Information Phone: +33 (0)8 25 84 25 97 (France) / +32 (0)70 66 77 88 (Belgium) Website: www.thalys.com

TGV

When travelling on the TGV, small pets (such as dogs, cats, rabbits, or hamsters) that are carried in a box or

basket no larger than 55x30x30 cm must have a fixed-fee ticket of €6.90 (this ticket is not sold in the

Netherlands). For larger dogs that do not fit in a basket, a 50% reduced ticket (rate: “dog”) is required. These

dogs must be kept on a leash and wear a muzzle at all times.

Guide dogs are welcome to travel for free and do not need to wear a muzzle.

As with all pets, animals should be clean, well-behaved, and not cause any disturbance or unpleasant smells

that could affect other passengers.
